Popcorn for the Troops

This year we are continuing a program to allow supporters of scouting (who may not like or want popcorn) to still support scouting.

The program is called "Popcorn for the Troops" and is a bit different than last year's program.  In the past, supporters purchased one of more tins of popcorn and the popcorn was gathered locally and shipped to our troops overseas.  This year, the Boy Scouts of America have set up a program for supporters to contribute in $25 increments towards "Popcorn for the Troops".  Part of the proceeds from those contributions will go for popcorn for our troops and the balance will go to the local Pack and Boy Scout Council.  Our scouts and the pack get credit for a popcorn sale, our troops get a taste of home, and our supporters help scouting!  A win for everyone involved!

Last year, Pack 39 sold over $9,400 worth of "Treats for the Troops" resulting in almost 1,200 cans of caramel popcorn to be sent to our soldiers!  Let's keep up this great track record of giving!

So how does it work?  Simple.

  1. If a customer does not wish to purchase popcorn for their own consumption, the selling scout tells the supporter about "Popcorn for the Troops".

  2. If the supporter is interested, the scout records the contribution on their order form as a sale to "Popcorn for the Troops" and enters the appropriate quantity on their order form.

  3. The scout collects the payment from the supporter and thanks them. 

  4. When the Take-Order popcorn phase ends in November, Trail-End will take all of the popcorn sold under this program and deliver it to all branches of the military concentrating on those soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan.

  5. Don't forget to the thank the supporter!

Note:  If the supporter wants to contribute but feels that $25 is too much, they can contribute any amount directly to our Pack.  Just make a note of the contributor and the amount contributed on your order form and submit the funds when you turn your order form in.
